What Is SMSP Technology?

Smooth Spot technology has long allowed operators to precisely control shot diameter, producing a laser beam that is smooth, uniform, and highly consistent. The result is improved weld accuracy, better repeatability, and reduced thermal impact on the workpiece.

In the image above, you can see how Smooth Spot technology—or SMSP technology—creates a uniform, consistent weld across the face of the nugget. In this infrared image, red, orange, and yellow represent effective weld areas (hottest portions of the weld). The nugget on the right shows how SMSP focuses the energy compared to the nugget on the right where the energy is diffused and less effective in creating a quality weld.

SMSP technology builds on this foundation by introducing a new pulse profile that delivers energy in a more gradual and controlled way. Instead of a sharp energy spike, SMSP distributes power smoothly and consistently throughout the pulse, maintaining precision while minimizing heat buildup.
